Proclamation of the EmperorThe coronation of the German emperor took place during the German-French War 1870-1871 in the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles. The date of January 18th was deliberately chosen to honor the coronation of the first King of Prussia (1701).
With this festive act the long-held dream of the liberal bourgeois movement becomes reality. Through the hard work of Bismarck, Germany is united and becomes the German Empire with German Emperor Wilhelm I and Imperial Chancellor Bismarck at its top. |
